The Department of Materials Science and Engineering of Peking University (MSE) was founded in 2005. After more than a decade of unremitting efforts, it has become a leader in the industry. Today, it ranks among the top 0.1% globally in the ESI ranking, the 6th globally in the US News subject ranking, and the 15th globally in the QS subject ranking.

MSE focuses on cutting-edge fields such as energy materials, optoelectronic materials, biomaterials, composite materials and emerging materials. With the responsibility of serving the country through scientific research and the mission of cultivating talents, it warmly looks forward to the joining of outstanding international students from all over the world to explore the infinite possibilities of the material world.

uOverview of “M-Talents” Summer School

To build a bridge for exchanges and progress between Chinese and foreign students and promote the integration of international education and culture, Peking University officially launched the “M-Talents” Summer School program in 2023, tailoring an academic feast integrating high-quality courses, college visits and cutting-edge practices for overseas undergraduates around the world.

Here, there are not only academic collisions and ideological exchanges, but also in-depth integration of Chinese and foreign cultures. We will carefully plan various cultural exchange activities, allowing you to immerse yourself in the charm of Chinese culture while concentrating on your studies, and meet like-minded people from all over the world. Let this summer be warm because of meeting and brilliant because of walking together.

uCourses & Activities

1.Frontier Discipline Lectures + Laboratory Visits: Listen to the teachings of top researchers, get close to cutting-edge scientific research equipment, and unlock the infinite mysteries of disciplinary frontiers;

2.Research Institute Visits & Exchanges: Communicate face-to-face with front-line researchers, explore the original intention of scientific research, and clarify the cutting-edge direction of the industry;

3.Enterprise Visits & Workshops: Step into the front line of the industry, integrate academic theory with practical application, and accumulate valuable experience;

4.Elementary Chinese Course: Taste the beauty of Chinese in the fragrance of ink and paper, unlock new daily communication skills, and feel the unique charm of Chinese language;

5.Cultural Excursions: Step on the land of China, explore the roots of culture, and feel the profoundness of Chinese civilization through travel.

Language of Instruction

English is used throughout the program, breaking language barriers to enable free academic exchanges and ideological collisions.

uProgram Period

July 18, 2026 — July 29, 2026.

A 12-day summer journey full of growth is waiting for you to start.

Beijing Campus: July 18 — July 25. All participants will join the Beijing session, where you can wander around Yenching Garden and immerse yourself in the profound humanistic heritage of this century-old university.

Shenzhen Campus: July 26 — July 29. A selected group of participants will have the additional opportunity to join the Shenzhen session, chasing dreams in Pengcheng (Shenzhen) and unlocking the infinite possibilities of cutting-edge technology.

uApplication Prerequisites

Passionate and ambitious — High school graduates who are enthusiastic about materials science, or undergraduate/graduate students with a background in science and engineering are all eligible to apply;

Applicants are required to submit certificates to prove their English or Chinese proficiency to facilitate smooth communication and start the academic journey.

2. Register your account with your email address and log in.

NOTE: 

When signing up, please ensure that the email address you provide is valid. After successfully signing up, a confirmation email will be sent to the registered email address, and following announcements associated with the program will be sent to the corresponding email address.

3.Click on Application, then enter the PKU 'M-Talents' Summer School and click Submit.

4. Fill in all the required information.

NOTE: 

For Basic Information, please upload a headshot photo with dimensions of 640*480px in JPG/BNP/GIF/PNG format and with a file size of less than 1 MB.

5. Submit your application.

After submitting the online application, please wait for the admission confirmation. You can check the registration status in the application system.

Registration Fee: Free of charge! We treat you with sincerity to support every pursuer’s journey to PKU.

Tuition Fees:

- Self-funded Students: 600 US dollars

- Scholarship Students: 100 US dollars (If your resume is excellent enough, we will notify you of your scholarship eligibility via email to encourage every bit of love and effort)

Kind Reminder: The above fees do not include round-trip air tickets, but include on-campus accommodation at PKU (twin room or triple room, where you can live with like-minded partners and talk about youth and ideals), catering fee and all course fees. It offers great value for money, allowing you to study at ease and live up to the summer.

uInsurance Requirements

In accordance with relevant national regulations and school requirements, international students are required to purchase insurance covering the entire program period in advance (either local or global insurance) to escort your travel and study and protect every journey of growth.
