To attract outstanding international students in science and engineering to engage in research and study at Peking University (PKU), the university has launched the "Summer Lab Research Program" for international students. This initiative offers short-term research opportunities for exceptional foreign students during the summer and aims to build a world-class platform for international academic exchange. The program promotes global academic collaboration in scientific research among PKU's science and engineering departments, supports the university's international development strategy, and contributes to the "Double First-Class" initiative. Outstanding international students are cordially invited to apply!
I. Program Overview
Students will conduct research under the supervision of PKU faculty members without enrolling in courses or earning credits.Both application and tuition fees are waived. The on-campusprogram runsduring the summer (June 30 – September 7, 2025).
II. Eligibility
Applicants must:
1.Be between the ages of18 and 45 (in principle), in good health, and of excellent academic and moral character.
2.Be non-Chinese citizens with avalid foreign passport (according tothe Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China).
3.Be friendly toward China and has no criminal record.
III. Application Process
1.Application by Students to Prospective Supervisors
Deadline: May 14
Students should contact their intended supervisor to express their research interest, attaching a CV(including name, age, nationality, etc.)and a research proposal(500–1000 words, in Chinese or English).
2. Preliminary Review by Supervisor
Deadline: May 14
Supervisors will review applicants'eligibility, academic background, and qualifications. If the application is approved, they must submit a signed"Statement on Hosting International Students for Short-Term Research at PKU"to the departmental academic affairs office.
3. Online Application Submission
Deadline: May 16
Applicants must log in to the PKU International Student Online Application System (http://www.studyatpku.com), select the"Science & Research Program", and choose"School of Materials Science and Engineering"to as the host institution to begin the application process..All application information must be completed truthfully.
4. Submission of Application Materials to the School
Deadline: May 16
Required documents:
(1) Printed online application form (hand-signed).
(2) Highest diploma/proof of current enrollment and academic transcripts (original or notarized Chinese/English versions).
(3) Two recommendation letters from associate professors (or equivalent) (original in Chinese/English).
(4) Research proposal (500–1000 words, in Chinese/English).
(5) Chinese proficiency certificate (if applicable).
(6) Copy of passport information page (must be a valid ordinary passport).
IV. On-Campus Management
Host Department: Manages daily affairs (e.g., campus access) and provides student support services.
International Students Division: Provides visa application materials, campus infrastructure (e.g., student ID cards, network access), accommodation coordination, and guidance on medical insurance for international students in China.
V. Visa
Admitted students must apply for astudy visa (X2)at the Chinese embassy or consulate using the admission documents.
