To further promote international academic exchange and cooperation, a delegation of faculty and students from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) paid a friendly visit to the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Peking University (hereinafter referred to as “the School”) from April 28 to 30, 2025. During the visit, the two sides engaged in academic collaboration discussions, cultural exchange activities, laboratory tours, and enterprise visits. Dean Zou Ruqiang, Assistant Dean Zhao Xiaoxu, Assistant Professors Wang Jiangtao, Xiao Xun, and Fu Xiaoyang, among others, participated in the events.

On the morning of April 28, the delegation arrived at the Yan Yuan campus of Peking University and attended a welcome ceremony held in Room 137 of the Integrated Science and Research Building. On behalf of the School, Zhao Xiaoxu welcomed the delegation and gave a brief introduction to Peking University’s academic heritage, research strengths, and achievements in international exchange. Members of the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) delegation expressed great anticipation for the visit and hoped to gain deeper insights into the educational models and research systems of Chinese universities.

Afterwards, the delegation toured the campus, gaining a deeper understanding of Peking University’s history and its unique cultural atmosphere.

On the morning of April 29, the delegation visited the New Yan Yuan Campus and the laboratory facilities of the School, gaining firsthand insights into the School’s development in research equipment and experimental platforms. During the tour, faculty and students from the School provided a comprehensive introduction to several cutting-edge research areas in the field of materials science, including carbon materials, new energy materials, optoelectronic display materials, biomedical materials, and advanced structural materials.
In the afternoon, members of the delegation attended an English-taught course titled “Solid State Chemistry”, delivered by Assistant Professor Fu Xiaoyang. During the class, Professor Fu engaged in active discussions with the visiting students. The lively academic exchange culminated in a gift exchange between both parties, further strengthening the friendship between the faculty and students of the two universities.

On the morning of April 30, the delegation visited Beijing Graphene Institute to gain in-depth understanding of developments in the advanced materials industry, including technological applications and achievements in commercialization. Guided by the institute’s staff, the delegation toured relevant R&D facilities and learned about the latest progress in key technology development, the translation of scientific research into practical outcomes, and international collaborative innovation.
