In order to further promote the construction of the Wanhua-PKU Joint Research Center, on the afternoon of March 9th, the School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE), Peking University (PKU) held a project meeting. Leaders from various departments of Wanhua Chemical Group Co., Ltd., including Hua Weiqi, the Executive Vice President and President of Wanhua’s Central Research Institute, Sun Jiakuan, the Executive Vice-President of Wanhua’s Central Research Institute, and Li Yuan, the Vice President of Wanhua’s Central Research Institute;academician Zhang Jin, a member of the Standing Committee and a vice president of Peking University and the dean of PKUSZ; Ma Yuguo, a Deputy Provost of PKU, the Principal of The Affiliated High School of Peking University and a professor of College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering (CCME); Pei Jian, the Secretary of the CPC CCME Committee; Peng Hailin, a Vice Dean of CCME; and Zou Ruqiang, the Dean of SMSE and the secretary of CPC School of Materials Science and Engineering Committee participated in this meeting. Zhang Jin pointed out that PKU has always attached great importance to organized scientific research and the strengthening and construction of basic research capabilities. In this regard, further promoting the integration of basic research and cooperation between universities and enterprises, and creating innovative mechanisms with demonstrative and leading roles are urgent issues that need to be addressed in the next step.

Subsequently, teachers from SMSE and CCME reported on their research projects in their respective fields and proposed prospects for cooperation. Cao Anyuan, Xia Dingguo, Pang Quanquan, Mo Fanyang, Shao Yuanlong, Shen Zhenghui from SMSE respectively presented reports on “Carbon Nanotube Sponge and Its Composite Materials”, “High Energy Density Cathode Materials: Theory and Practice”, “Development of High Specific Energy Lithium-Sulfur Batteries: From Liquid to All-Solid State”, “Application of Automation + Machine Learning in Synthetic Chemistry”, “Phase Change Heat Management Fiber Material with Graphene-Carbon Transition”, and “Functionalization and Application Exploration Research on Phase Change Energy Storage Materials”. They reported on the project background, research content, and their expectations for cooperation. Zhang Wenxiong, Ju Jing, Zheng Junrong, Pei Jian, Li Yan, Liu Zhirong, and student Shen Zeyuan from Yu Zhixiang’s Group from CCME respectively presented reports titled “Chlorine-free Methods for Converting White Phosphorus into Organic Phosphorus”, “Applications of In-situ Electron Microscopy Techniques in Material Science”, “Instrument Development”, “Latest Research Progresses in CPI materials”, “Controllable Preparation of Carbon Nanotubes”, “Virtual Screening of Molecular Ligands with Multi-Armed Bandit Algorithm”, “Designing And Synthesizing Catalysts for Olefin Tetramerization”. They reported on the project background, research progress, application areas, cooperation areas, etc.

This meeting has played a positive role in promoting the construction of the Wanhua-PKU Joint Research Center. In the future, Wanhua and PKU will leverage their team strengths, focus on collaborative integration, continuously explore and accumulate knowledge, and vigorously promote the development of the Joint Research Center through collaboration, complementary advantages and joint research efforts.
