The Exchange Symposium on Promoting the Development of Shenzhen’s Advanced Materials Industry through Regional Integration of Universities were held

On the afternoon of February 15th, the Exchange Symposium on Promoting the Development of Shenzhen’s Advanced Materials Industry through Regional Integration of Universities and the Launching Ceremony of the Shenzhen Advanced Materials Innovation Allianceof Chinese Materials Research Societywere held in Shenzhen. This symposium is jointly hosted by Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School (PKUSZ) and the School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE) of Peking University (PKU). Representatives from the government, enterprises, and academia were invited. Zhang Zengzhi, the Secretary General of the Chinese Materials Research Society of China Association for Science and Technology, Lin Xiang, the Secretary of the Party Committee of Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology and the vice president of Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology, Jiang Bin, the Deputy Director of the High-tech Department of the Shenzhen Technology Innovation Commission, academician Cheng Huiming, theemeritus dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering ofShenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (preparatory), Peng Xiaojun, the academician of the College of Materials Science and Engineering of Shenzhen University, Yu Shuhong, the dean of Institute of Innovative Materials of Northern University of Science and Technology, Professor Zhang Hua from City University of Hong Kong, Fang Zhenhui, the Chairman of Heilongjiang Graphite Valley Industry Group Co., Ltd.,He Xueqin, the Chairman of BTR New Materials Group Co., Ltd.,Liao Zhenbo, the CEO of Shenzhen Senior Technology Material Co., Ltd., Li Anning, the vice president of R&D atLifeTech Scientific Corporation (Shenzhen),Kang Feiyu, the associate deanof Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Li Mingyu, the Dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering of Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, Li Jiangyu, the Dean of Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology, Wang Lei,the Dean of College of Materials Science and Engineering at Shenzhen University, and Zhang Jin, a member of the Standing Committee, vice president ofPeking University and the dean of PKUSZ, attended the symposium. In addition, more than 150 people including faculty from relevant functional departments of PKU, as well as representatives of teachers and students from SMSE, attended the symposium to discuss the development plan for the materials discipline. The meeting was presided over by Zou Ruqiang, the Secretary of the CPC School of Materials Science and Engineering Committee and Dean of SMSE.


Zhang Jin pointed out that the establishment oftheAdvanced Materials Innovation Allianceis not only a vivid manifestation ofthecombinationof education, technology, and talent, but also a beneficial attempt to open up new paths for cooperation between government, industry, academia, and researchcenter.Heexpressedtheir hopethatthe establishment of the alliancewillbuild an exchange platform for domestic universities, research institutions, and enterprises engaged inadvancedmaterialsresearch and development, and furtherpromotethe integrated development ofmaterials discipline and materials industryin China.

Zhang Zengzhipointed out that the advanced materials industry in China is developing rapidly. He hopes that, led by the alliance, the government, enterprises, and academia will carry out key technological breakthroughs in national key strategic areas and solve “chocker” problems, do a better job in the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements, and provideShenzhen’s advanced materials industry with technical support and talents.

Lin Xiang warmly welcomed the teachers and students from Peking University. He pointed out that the advanced materials industry cluster, as one of the key sub-sectors of Shenzhen’s “20+8” strategic emerging industries, has become a new source of Shenzhen’s economic growth. Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology will provide better services to guarantee the development of strategic emerging industries and work together to build Shenzhen into a leading global capital of advanced materials.

As the lights were lit, allguests witnessed the establishment of the Shenzhen Advanced Materials Innovation Alliance of Chinese Materials Research Society.

TheLaunching Ceremony


Atthe signing ceremonyof the school-enterprise cooperation, the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Peking University signed memorandums of cooperation with Heilongjiang Graphite Valley Industry Group Co., Ltd., BTR New Materials Group Co., Ltd.,Shenzhen Senior Technology Material Co., Ltd.,andLifeTech Scientific Corporation (Shenzhen). According to the memorandum,PKU and the enterprises will engage in in-depth cooperation in talent cultivation, subject construction, scientific research, and other areas.

Kang Feiyu, the associate deanof Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Li Mingyu, the Dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering of Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, Li Jiangyu, the Dean of Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology, Wang Lei, the Dean of College of Materials Science and Engineering at Shenzhen University, and Zhou Huanping, theDeputyDean ofSMSE, PKU, respectively delivered speeches on the theme of“Promoting Development of Shenzhen’sAdvanced Materials Industry through Regional Integration of Universities”.They introduced the development concept, talent cultivation, scientific research, industrial application, international exchanges, and social services, and proposed ideas and plansfor the development of the alliance.Theyallstated that they will further promotecross-border technological exchanges, achieve resource integration and integration development, and strive to provide the advanced material industry withtechnicalsupportand talents.

As for the reports,ChengHuimingintroducedthe development history, current situation and industrialization progress of materials researchmade bythe Institute of Advanced Technology ofChinese Academy of SciencesandShenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (preparatory), as well as the contributions made by the Institute in promoting the development ofcarbon neutrality materials.

Starting from the researchand industrial development ofsmartmolecular engineering, Peng Xiaojun introduced theresearchprocess and important achievements of his research team in promotingsmartmolecular engineering to industrialization.

Yu Shuhongmade areport titled“AdvancedMaterialsInnovation and Industrial Manufacturing”andintroduced the development history, breakthrough progress, and application fields ofadvancedmaterials.

Zhang Hua introduced the research direction, potential applications, and development process ofPhase Engineering of Nanomaterials, as well as the innovative scientific research achievements and industrial value ofcrystal phase researchmade by his team.

On the new journey, the Shenzhen Advanced Materials Innovation Alliance of Chinese Materials Research Societywill actively respond to the new round of industrial layout adjustment in Shenzhen, promote the deep integration of education chain, industry chain, innovation chain, and talent chain, continuously shape new driving forces and advantages for developmentbased on theneeds of the new materials industry in Shenzhen, and make new and bettercontributions to the development of the advanced materials industry in Shenzhen and the development of materials science in China.
