RESEARCH INTERESTS
The Liu Research Group specializes in the controllable synthesis, atomic-level structure-property correlation, and applications of low-dimensional nanoelectronic materials, including amorphous 2D carbon and oxide, and amorphous-crystalline nanohybrids. By devoting to developing innovative synthesis methods and materials, the research interests currently focus on the isotope engineering of 2D crystals, and amorphous systems (including carbon-based film and metal oxides). By differing the neutron number, isotope substitution allows the purification of isotope disorder and further tunability over the phonon-governed properties of these low-dimensional materials, enabling significant advances in applications including ultrahigh thermal conductance. On a parallel front, 2D amorphous materials provide unprecedented opportunities to decipher the structure-property relations within amorphous fields due to the exposure of all atoms in one layer. Liu group develops amorphous monolayer carbon, carbon-metal amorphous composite, and metal oxide thin-layers, exploring potentials in thin-film transistors, memristors, and neuromorphic devices.
