School of Materials Science and Engineering (PKU) and China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group Hold Party-Building Exchange and Co-development Activity

On March 11, 2026, an exchange meeting on Party-building co-development between the School of Materials Science and Engineering (PKU) and China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group (CISRI) was held in Conference Room 137 of the Comprehensive Research Building. Attendees from China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group included Zhang Shirong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; Du Wansheng, Senior Chief Expert; Zhou Dong, General Manager of the Strategic Client Business Division; Xu Peng, Deputy General Manager; Liu Zhenbao, Chief Engineer; Bao Hansheng, Deputy Director of the Special Steel Research Institute; Deng Chenhong, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School; and Li Changlin, Deputy Director of the Human Resources Department. From the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Dean Zou Ruqiang, Party Secretary Li Ming, and Deputy Party Secretary Guo Shaojun attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Guo Shaojun.

Prior to the meeting, representatives from China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group visited the School’s instrumentation and equipment platform to gain an in-depth understanding of the School’s achievements in building high-level scientific research facilities.

Visit and Tour

At the exchange meeting, Guo Shaojun introduced the School’s overall profile, disciplinary strengths, and recent achievements in talent cultivation and scientific research. He also presented the School’s practices and results in Party-building work. Representatives from the Group’s Human Resources Department, Strategic Client Business Division, the Graduate School of the Central Iron & Steel Research Institute, and the State Key Laboratory for Advanced Special Steel under the Central Iron & Steel Research Institute shared information on the Group’s development history, talent training system and graduate education, and the progress of key laboratory research projects. They also highlighted the Group’s efforts in serving national strategies and promoting technological innovation and industrial development.

Discussion and Exchange

Zou Ruqiang extended a warm welcome to Zhang Shirong and his delegation. He expressed hope that the two sides would carry out substantive cooperation in areas such as collaborative university–industry education mechanisms, joint construction of national key laboratories, joint training of young scientific and technological talents, and coordinated efforts on major research projects. He emphasized focusing on major national needs through organized scientific research.

Li Ming highly praised the co-development activity and noted that it represents an important practice in implementing the strategic deployment of integrating education, science and technology, and talent development as outlined in the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. He emphasized that both sides should use organizational collaboration as a link, project cooperation as support, and joint talent cultivation as the foundation, promoting synergy between Party-building and scientific research breakthroughs, technology transfer, and disciplinary development.

Zhang Shirong spoke highly of the School’s outstanding achievements in the field of new materials and elaborated on the significant potential for collaboration between the two sides in advanced metal materials research, tackling key core technologies, and deep integration of industry, academia, and research. He stated that China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group looks forward to strengthening exchanges with the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Peking University, leveraging their respective technological and industrial advantages, and deepening cooperation in innovation system development and industrial incubation. Together, they aim to contribute more to serving national strategies and promoting high-quality development of related industries.

During the discussion session, both sides conducted in-depth exchanges on topics such as “Party-building leading the deep integration of industry, academia, and research.” They agreed that building a joint Party-building platform is an important mechanism for promoting resource sharing and complementary advantages between universities and enterprises. In the future, both parties will pragmatically advance cooperation in areas including the establishment of joint laboratories, expansion of internship and practice bases, and dual-supervisor training systems for talent development.

The successful convening of this exchange meeting has laid a solid foundation for deeper cooperation between the two sides in talent cultivation and scientific and technological innovation. In the future, the university and the enterprise will further integrate their advantageous resources, expand cooperation in industry–academia–research collaboration, jointly serve national strategic needs, and contribute to the high-quality development of the materials discipline.
