To promote physical well-being among faculty and offer opportunities for exercise amidst the demands of research, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, in collaboration with Peking University’s Archery Club, organized the “Befriend Through the Bow, Let Arrows Soar” Archery Experience Event on April 24 at the Archery Hall in the North Wing of the First Gymnasium at PKU.

Archery is a sport that enhances muscular strength and coordination, improves focus, and fosters emotional regulation and stress resilience. For this event, official members of the Peking University Archery Team were invited to serve as coaches and ensure safety, providing professional guidance to faculty participants throughout the session.

At the start of the activity, the coaches gave an overview of basic archery knowledge and important safety precautions, introducing the history and development of archery, the use of recurve bows, as well as proper stance and preparatory movements. With patient, hands-on instruction, participants gradually learned and grasped the fundamentals of the sport.

After the instruction session, participants eagerly took to the range to begin their hands-on archery experience. Under the guidance of the coaches, each individual had the opportunity to personally enjoy the thrill of drawing the bow and releasing an arrow. The atmosphere was lively and enthusiastic, as participants found joy in the sport and engaged in friendly group competitions.

As one of the model initiatives organized by the School’s labor union, this archery experience event fully demonstrated the active role of grassroots union efforts. Moving forward, the union will continue to organize engaging activities, striving to build a “home for the faculty and staff” that is trusted and valued by them.
